THE STORY
Canyon View Lodge was once the home of Slavka Maneva, a beloved Macedonian poet and children storybook writer, whose fairy tales of mythological creatures and starlit worlds have been translated into nine languages. It is not hard to see why she chose this place. The canyon outside the window looks like something from one of her stories.
The exterior of the house has been preserved to reflect the traditional architecture of the region. Much of what you'll find inside — the furniture, the shelves, the woodwork — was made by hand by Ilija, your host. Nothing was bought to fill a room. Everything was built to belong in one.
It is an eclectic place, shaped over time rather than designed at once. We think that's what makes it feel like somewhere, rather than anywhere.
